“L’uomo poco distante” (trans: The man at a distance) by the trombone player , composer and arranger Tony Cattano - is characterized by the originality of its concept.
It is an engaging work on memory - the memories of a little boy in his hometown in Sicily playing in the local marching band often accompanying funeral parades.
The fascination of those distant sounds adds to the mystery of a character, who in the processions (according to traditional hierarchies) is the last after the family, relatives and friends of the deceased.
He is the man at a distance.
This discreet presence gives the symbolic value of the remembrance that within us remains of the people who have left us.
On this memory Tony Cattano builds a highly detailed composition reconstructing the dynamic qualities of the sicilian marching bands with both creative and visionary apertures.
In this work he leads a large and prestigious ensemble that guarantees a unique polyphony with a strong personality.
